First-Time Driver and Licensing Courses

The catalog includes courses that may satisfy Florida first-time-driver and licensing steps, depending on the applicant’s age, license history, and current state rules:

Under 18 and applying for a first Florida license — the current six-hour Driver Education Traffic Safety (DETS) course is typically completed first.
Age 18 or older and applying for a first Florida license — the current four-hour Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE) course is typically the first step.
Need the online Florida permit exam — an online Class E knowledge exam may be available for eligible applicants.

Florida licensing requirements depend on the applicant’s age, license history, eligibility, and current state rules. Confirm the correct course with FLHSMV, the licensing office, or the course provider before enrolling. Start Right does not determine eligibility.

Ticket and Driver-Improvement Courses

The catalog may include courses such as:

Basic Driver Improvement (BDI)
Advanced Driver Improvement (ADI)
Intermediate Driver Improvement (IDI) when available
Wireless Device Safety
Mature Driver courses
Other ticket, court, suspension, or driver-improvement programs
