What to expect in Westlake

Families coordinating lessons for more than one learner, such as a teen and a parent or two siblings, can talk through each student's goals separately, while every lesson stays private and one-on-one. Each student gets their own written progress notes, so it's easy to see where each person stands. As skills build, Westlake lessons move onto Seminole Pratt Whitney Road for practice at higher speeds, lane discipline and signal timing.

Road test in Westlake

Westlake has its own Tax Collector service center that gives road tests: 16440 Town Center Parkway South, Westlake, FL 33470. It is one of five road-test centers in Palm Beach County, and it's also where our Wellington and Royal Palm Beach students test.

Book through the Palm Beach County Tax Collector at pbctax.gov/reservations. Reservations are required, they are for county residents, and you can book up to 60 days ahead; open times change daily. The test is given in English only, and lessons include practice following an examiner's spoken directions.

Road Test Day Support ($249 on its own, $195 with Core 6, $149 with Confident 10 or larger) includes pickup and drop-off, a 15 to 30 minute warm-up and use of our training vehicle for your scheduled test. Start Right's training car has been accepted at the Tax Collector's road test offices. Like any test vehicle, it is still inspected by the examiner on test day, and appointment times depend on the Tax Collector's booking system. Our Palm Beach County Road Test Guide covers what to bring, vehicle rules and fees. Office details checked November 2026.

Who these lessons are for

We teach teens working toward their first license, adults learning for the first time or returning after time off the road, and nervous drivers who want to build confidence at a comfortable pace.

How the lessons work

Every lesson is private and one-on-one. The instructor adjusts each session to the student's progress, experience and goals, and you get written progress notes with clear next steps after every lesson. The right number of lessons depends on prior experience, outside practice, confidence and progress, so we adjust pace and priorities as the student develops.

Pickup and service area

Every address in Westlake is inside our pickup area, with no extra travel fee. Pickup and drop-off come with every lesson; you enter your pickup address during online registration before payment.

Westlake driving lessons FAQ

How long is a lesson and what does it cost?

Lessons are two hours, private and one-on-one. A Starter Lesson is $195, Core 6 (6 hours) is $570 and Confident 10 (10 hours) is $900. Larger packages are on our packages page.

Is there a road test office in Westlake?

Yes. The Tax Collector's Westlake service center, 16440 Town Center Parkway South, gives road tests. Book at pbctax.gov/reservations; reservations are for county residents and open up to 60 days ahead.

What does my teen need before the road test?

Florida requires teens to be at least 16, to have held a learner's license for 12 months (or turned 18), and to have a parent, guardian or responsible adult over 21 certify 50 hours of driving, 10 of them at night. There must be no moving-violation convictions for one year from the learner's license issue date (one is allowed if adjudication was withheld).

Can more than one person in our family take lessons?

Yes. Each learner has their own private, one-on-one lessons and their own written progress notes, and goals are discussed separately for each student.

Can I use your car for the road test?

Yes, with Road Test Day Support, which includes use of our training car for your scheduled test. Our car has been accepted at the Tax Collector's road test offices; the examiner inspects it on test day like any test vehicle. Appointment times depend on the Tax Collector's booking system.
